An
important silver book-cover.
Pierced and engraved in the style of
De Bry with monkeys, birds, caterpillars,
sphinxes, masks and vases with flowers.
The front-cover engraved with five cartouches
with scenes from the Old Testament.
The back-cover engraved with five scenes from
the New Testament. The spine engraved with
four biblical scenes. The two clasps for shutting
the binding are open-worked and engraved with
bunches of fruit.
The binding contains its original content:
a Enchiridon or the Handbook of the Christian
Faith, printed by Hans Passchiers van Wesbuch
in 1627, Haarlem.
