A Pair of Frisian Casters

This handsome pair of silver casters was made in 1773 by the Frisian silversmith Jan Rienstra who worked in Sneek.
The completely symmetrical casters stand on round domed foot. The stem has a pierced ring with circular motifs. The covers have a pierced decoration inspired on the French gardens which were highly fashionable during the Louis XIV period. On the top of the covers is an appliqué star ornament topped with a finial in the shape of a garden vase.

Both casters are fully marked on the closing rim of the canister with the Frisian provincial mark, the assay mark of Sneek, the date letter V for 1773 and the maker's mark IP for Jan Rienstra.
