Looking for Love…

It's always nice to find unusual pieces like this corkscrew. Dutch silver corkscrews from the 18th century are real works of art. Look at the richly executed rocaille scrolls on the shank of this example. Sitting on top of large scroll is a sly looking cupid with a quiver of arrows on his back, looking for loveā€¦  Corkscrews in which the handle is formed by an animal or even a figure are rare. This wonderful example was made in Delft in 1777 by Jan Regter. Only a very few corkscrews with a cupid are known. It's easy to fall in love with this one.
