A Miniature Violin Player

While musicians can now grow into true pop stars, in the Middle Ages they still had to travel from village to village to scrape together a living. A well-known scene well into the 18th century is a cosy inn where a musician provides the entertainment. With the rise of the piano from 1700 onwards and great classical composers in the 18th century, the prestige of musicians rose, but street musicians like this violinist were certainly still around.
This violinplayer was made in Haarlem in 1740 by Reinier Reinalda.
