Our story

Emiel Aardewerk and Esther Aardewerk are the directors of A. Aardewerk, a family-owned company specializing in superb quality antique Dutch silver dating from the sixteenth century onwards and in exquisite antique and period jewellery.
With its traditions firmly rooted in the city of The Hague, the firm’s history goes back to the turn of the twentieth century. In November 1970, after working in his parents antique and jewellery shop for twelve years, Abraham Aardewerk and his wife Magdie opened the current showrooms in Jan van Nassaustraat in The Hague. Emiel and Esther, who were raised with antiques, joined their father in the business in 1995. They are the fourth generation of antiques experts in the family.

Emiel Aardewerk succeeded his father as the silver expert on the TV programme Tussen Kunst & Kitsch. He has been a member of the board of the Royal Association of Fine Art Dealers in the Netherlands (Koninklijke Vereeniging van Handelaren in Oude Kunst in Nederland). He was also a member of the Silver Vetting Commitees at TEFAF Maastricht and PAN Amsterdam.

Esther Aardewerk graduated from Vakschool Schoonhoven as a jeweller in 1997, having previously obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at Hotelschool The Hague. She is a Fellow of the Federation of European Gemmologists. She also gives her expertise on silver in the television programme Tussen Kunst & Kitsch, the Dutch equivalent of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow.

A. Aardewerk has been exhibiting at the renowned international TEFAF Art and Antiques Fair in Maastricht since 1995, at Tefaf New York since 2016 and has been participating in the PAN Amsterdam Fair since 1993.

A. Aardewerk is a member of The Royal Association of Fine Art Dealers in the Netherlands (Koninklijke Vereeniging van Handelaren in Oude Kunst) and of CINOA (Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d’Art).
