This miniature silver gilt standing cup and cover has an ornate decoration on the foot. The cup is decorated with fruit bunches between garlands of draped fabric. The cover is topped with a shielded warrior on a pied-de-stal.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, these impressive goblets were often commissioned by guild councils. Although only a few examples in Dutch silver are known, these goblets are regularly portrayed in still lifes such as this painting by Willem Claesz Heda.
Miniature versions of these goblets with lids are extremely rare.
